Craniosacral Therapy

I think of Craniosacral Therapy as a ‘jewel’ among therapies and I have witnessed some wonderful outcomes for clients. The therapy  addresses the whole person, body, mind and spirit; healing can be experienced on each level. Craniosacral Therapy is attracting increasing interest for its effective treatment of many conditions, encouraging vitality and a sense of well-being. It is suitable for people of all ages including babies, children and the elderly, and can be effective in acute or chronic cases.

How does it work?

The therapist provides contact which encourages the body’s inherent healing processes, influencing the central nervous system, brain and spinal column, tissues and fluids. Health is expressed by a subtle motion of the tissues and fluids which can be felt by the therapist.  Using the lightest of touch and finely tuned perceptual skills, the therapist ‘listens’ with his or her hands to information conveyed through the client’s body. The body responds, softening into a deeply healing state in which the motions of tissues and fluid can return to balance. Treatments can be transformative and clients can feel deeply seen, heard and held.

The sessions

I will take a case history in the first session. Each session typically lasts an hour. You remain clothed and usually lie face up or on your side on the treatment table. I will make light contact, initially with your feet, head, and spine, encouraging your body to settle.  A state of deep relaxation may be experienced. People often experience relief after only one or two sessions while long-standing problems may require further sessions.

Craniosacral Therapy can be used to treat:

  • Orthopedic problems
  • Chronic pain conditions
  • Stress-related disorders
  • Migraines and headaches
  • shock and Trauma conditions
  • Psychological and emotional issues

Children and Special Needs: I enjoy using this work with children and see very positive results, including those with emotional needs and those on the Austism Spectrum. Find more information on the next page.
